Experience
20+ years:   Since 1986, Arlene L. Weiss has been president and principal scientist for PharmTox, Inc., a consulting firm specializing in toxicology, epidemiology, and pharmacology. She is a certified toxicologist being a Diplomate of the American Board of Toxicology (qualified by examination in 1995, recertification in 2000, and 2005). She is a Board Certified Forensic Examiner (Diplomate) with a specialty in medical record review and analysis in toxicology and a Fellow of the American College of Forensic Examiners. Ms. Weiss received her Masters Degree in Environmental Health Sciences (Epidemiology) from New York University in 1990. Her Master's thesis was developed and written on the toxicology and epidemiology of trichloroethylene, a degreasing agent often found in groundwater contamination sites. Ms. Weiss has been appointed to the faculty of the NYU School of Medicine (2003-present). In this appointment, Ms. Weiss lectures in the graduate courses in Toxicology and Systemic Toxicology. In addition, Ms. Weiss has recently been appointed to the faculty of the Mt. Sinai School of Medicine, Division of Community and Preventive Medicine (2006-present). In this appointment, Ms. Weiss serves as course director and lecturer for the graduate course in toxicology (# 515) in the Masters in Public Health Program–Occupational and Environmental Medicine. Ms. Weiss has also published original research and reviews in peer reviewed journals, performed book reviews, and has served as a contributing editor for an online newsletter publication concerning inhalation toxicology. Ms. Weiss has researched the published literature for specific compounds and toxicants. She has formulated risk assessment opinions with respect to adverse health effects and target organ toxicity for a variety of private clients. Her experience in toxicology has focused on hazard assessment, risk interpretation and safety evaluation. For specific clients, a risk assessment is performed for specific sites under specific conditions of use/exposure given specific toxicants and exposure scenarios. For toxic tort litigation cases, Ms. Weiss has also served as an expert witness and provided trial and deposition testimony.
